On the afternoon of June 20th, the Tourism English professional teaching team of the Institution of International Education successfully held the preliminary competition of the First English Tour Guide Skills Competition. After a semester of English tour guide skills training, a total of 23 contestants competed on the same stage and learned from each other.
The content of the preliminary competition is divided into two parts: tour guide words and quizzes. Among the five scenic spots of Five Officials Temple, Demarcation Island, Areca Valley, Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone and Nanshan Dongtian Park, one scenic spot will be selected for English explanation. The 23 contestants tried their best and prepared meticulously. Some of them were humorous, and some increased the interaction of the audience. Each contestant had his own characteristics. In the question and answer session of the tour guide knowledge, the students responded quickly. Most of them answered correctly and won unanimous praise from the judges. After fierce competition, Yang Fuqun, Shi Hao, Liu Lili, Ning Shuxin, Tang Chaowan, Hu Jingya, Guo Guixiang and Shi Jiayin won the top eight and will participate in the English tour guide finals next semester. In this competition, we were honored to invite Li Yongquan, a senior English tour guide in Hainan, to serve as a judge and make a post-competition comment. Mr. Li affirmed the achievements of the contestants. He said it was indeed a reward for every effort. He expressed his sincere hope that everyone would make persistent efforts to improve their ability to use English and tour guide service skills.
This competition showed the tour guide styles and practical skills of students majoring in Tourism English. It also reflected the educational concept of promoting teaching and learning.
