In the afternoon of September 13, 2024, the Tourism English Major held a unique event of major education for the 2024 freshmen in Classroom 1-602. The purpose of this event is to help freshmen quickly adapt to university life, enhance their sense of identity with their major, and clarify their future learning goals. The event was hosted by Li Hongmei, the person in charge of the Tourism English Major, with the presence of teacher He Chun, Xiao Yingna, and Ling Jingrui, the head teacher for the freshmen.
The event began in a warm and harmonious atmosphere, with Ms Li Hongmei affectionately delivering an opening speech to the freshmen. Then, through the lively games "Musical Chairs" and "Back and Forth", Ms Li led the students to quickly break the ice and warm up. She provided a detailed explanation of the unique charm of the Tourism English, including key information such as cultivation goals, employment prospects, curriculum system, and faculty members.
Next, the freshmen took turns introducing themselves in a game of "Hot Potato". By combining the characteristics of "Tourism + English" of this major, they shared the famous scenic spots and food specialties of their hometowns, showcasing the enthusiasm and talent of the new students.
Then, starting with an ingenious English opening, Professor He Chun brushed the practical activities and achievements of Tourism English over the years, including participation in Boao Forum for Asia, practice at China International Consumer Products Expo, Tour Guide skills competitions, and Bilingual Route Design activities. Professor He also encouraged the students to actively improve their listening and speaking skills, participate courageously in competitions, and showcase themselves. Additionally, Ms Xiao Yingna introduced the rules, bonuses and credit rewards of provincial and national competitions in detail, and focused on the most important competition of this major -- Tour Guide Service competition. She encouraged the freshmen to enhance their comprehensive qualities through competitions.
Sophomore students led the freshmen to play games like "Guess the Ethnicity" and "Read the Words", where everyone won beautiful prizes in laughter. Finally, Ms Li Hongmei played a video message recorded by Zhu Yaning, an outstanding student from grade 2022, for the freshmen, sharing the experience and blessings of the senior students.
Through this event, the 2024 freshmen gained a deeper understanding of the Tourism English major, clarified their learning direction and goals during their university years, and improved their anticipation and confidence for the future. After the event, many freshmen said that they are full of expectations for their next three years of college life and are ready to study hard.
